This is my experience, as a Canadian having dental procedures in Cancun.

I am from Canada.  I lived in Mexico for 20 years.  I returned to Canada in 2013 for “family reasons” but I visit Cancun regularly.

I don’t have any issues visiting the dentist in Mexico.  I try to make a yearly visit with my Mexican dentist when I travel to Cancun for vacation.  I thought that I would transfer my “dental needs” to Canada when I returned to live here with my family, but I was shocked at the prices.  We are small business owners, without Canadian dental plans/ insurance.  What sticker shock we had.

When I first started calling around for general dental cleaning, I was told that I would need extensive x-rays and a full consultation before I could get a cleaning.  This was back in 2013 and the price was 400 CAD.  GULP.

I eventually found a dental hygienist who took my family on.  She charges 150 for each of our cleanings, which is fine.  She is very good and thorough.

Two years ago, during covid, our son required his wisdom teeth removed.  We spoke to our dentist in Cancun and he gave us the price of $1,000 for all 4 removals.  We couldn’t get a flight to Cancun, due to the pandemic, so we ended up spending $3000 dollars for the exact same procedure here.

Let’s talk about my dental crown, on a back molar,  that needed to be replaced.  Actually, I ended up visiting Mexico last November and I had that crown replaced for 400 dollars.  I didn’t think that 1,900 dollars were a fair price here in Canada.  That’s a pile of money.

My husband needed a root canal.  We got it done for 250 dollars.  There was no, pre-appointment, and payment – followed by 2nd appointment and payment, followed by 3rd appointment and payment.  It was one easy appointment and done.

I love dentistry in Cancun, and I will continue to travel for all of my dental requirements.  I can’t recommend it enough.
